SAT Prep and College Counseling

Ronald Reagan Secondary School is dedicated to preparing students for entrance into a postsecondary school.  In addition to a rigorous curriculum, RRSS offers SAT and ACT test preparation courses.

Students will often choose to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the ACT college readiness assessment.  Both tests are considered college entrance exams and almost every US undergraduate institution will require at least one.  Many colleges will accept both the SAT and the ACT.  Both tests are similar in that they are standardized, i.e. timed and conducted in a predetermined location and utilized pre-approved questions.

Generally, there are key differences between the ACT and SAT.  For example, the SAT has a strong emphasis on vocabulary while the ACT tests higher math concepts.  The ACT has a science section and an optional writing section, while the SAT lacks a science section and requires essay writing.  The SAT deducts points for wrong answers, while the ACT scores are based only on correct answers.

In determining which test to take, RRSS recommends that students discuss the decision with their parents, do their own research, talk to the school counselor, and consider their own personal strengths and goals.  Some students will score substantially better on one test than the other.  Students should carefully consider which test is more suitable to their personal abilities.

Test Preparation Course Structure and Fees

The test preparation courses offered by Reagan Secondary School are taught by expert and high score verified teachers.  All of our test preparation teachers are qualified and certified before being assigned teaching appointments.  Class sizes are 4-6 students only.

The test preparation courses are designed to hone test taking skills and maximize students’ scores.  The course provides a single place where students can find strategy lessons, practice questions and explanations, and an emulation of a real standardized testing environment.

The registration fee for the test preparation courses is $800.  This includes all the testing materials, such as, lesson materials, practice tests, question explanations and analyses, score increasing strategies, and homework assignments.

The SAT and ACT preparation courses are both structured in the same manner.  Each course involves a total of 40 hours spread throughout a total of 10 sessions.  Each session is four hours long and will either be a lesson or a proctored practice test.  A sample schedule is shown below.  Morning and afternoon sessions will be scheduled, as necessary.  In total, at the end of the preparation course, students will have received 20 hours of lessons and five proctored tests.

College Counseling

Ronald Reagan Secondary School support students with qualified college counselors.  They will talk with students and find out what the students’ academic goals are, potential universities, and possible career paths.  The student will develop a college plan with their counselor and periodically review the plan to ensure that checkpoints and objectives are being met.
